Well, there's nothing really interesting about me just that maybe I was a singer in my national service days. Its kinda weird I know, but I definitely enjoyed singing in an acappella group (I do the vocal percussion), performing to secondary school students. And maybe also that I'm rather into music, recorded an acappella piece (6 parts) alone before. And I reckon it might be interesting to know that I performed a solo rendition at the opening of the Esplanade before (it was an African song) and I danced as a SEAWEED for Chingay 2003 (I shudder at the thought). Oh wells, I could go on and on with all these boring life stories of mine, but I guess you're probably disinterested by now.
There are alot of things that have come and gone in my life, but the one thing that has always remain faithful and close to my heart is soccer. My interest in the game was probably inspired after I was rejected for the basketball tryouts back in primary school. I knew it definitely had something to do with my height. But I never gave up and decided to pursue a game that was closer to the ground, soccer. I knew as a player, I would be disadvantaged when it came to ball-in-the-air challenges. However, I also do realized that I had an advantage for my size when it came to dribbling, reaction speed, sliding, tackling and so forth. And so, obviously the pros outweighed the cons and I knew I would do well in this sport. I became better at the game eventually, and as time went by the first recognition for my talent arrived as I secured the golden boot award for my inter-house soccer tournament back in Junior College. My first game was 9-0 which I scored 7. The second game was 11-0 which I scored 8 if my memory serves me correctly. My most memorable goal was a diving header from way out of the box, in a friendly match that my friend organized. It was an incredible feeling. Not that I've had much games in Team TCC, but for now, it has to be the goal that I scored at Marina South. The goal-keeper took a goal kick, which I received and kicked it back and scored. It was hilarous.
Anyway, I do enjoy watching soccer matches. However, it is extremely annoying when I have audiences around me who liberates comments that are shallow and critical as I am more interested in the game play and plan. I play soccer with the neighbourhood fellows as and when I can during the week. Its great fun, watching them mature and grow, especially in terms of their skills and play. I've probably known some of them for more than 9 years now. I got involved coaching the girls soccer team from Kent Ridge Hall back in 2003. I was hooked, it was so satisfying seeing them learn and execute the tricks and skills that I've imparted. Lastly, now that I'm working, I've hardly time to play soccer. I hope I'll be able to free up more time and enjoy this game that I truly love.
